The latest episode of Jay Leno\u2019s Garage features one of Porsche\u2019s greatest modern classics, the Carrera GT.<\/p>\n
Along with his impression of the convertible after 17 years of ownership and his relationship with Porsche, the comedian also gave us some insights into what it’s like to spin out, going 191mph at the Talladega Superspeedway.<\/p>\n
Made famous by the crash that took Pual Walker away, this Porsche featured a never before used engine that was designed for the Footwork Formula One team and then a Le Mans racer. Porsche placed the 5.7-liter V10 capable of 603HP and 435 lb-ft of torque in an exquisitely crafted carbon fiber monocoque chassis, giving us a car capable of doing 0-60 mph in 3.5secs, topping out at 208mph.<\/p>\n
And as Jay Leno<\/a> demonstrates, the sound of the Carrera GT is a sweet purr of German fine engineering mixed with the passion of a thoroughbred racing car.<\/p>\n One of the most common complaints among petrolheads about going electric is losing a car’s acoustic flare. Yes, an electric car accelerates like a hare, and all of the torque is available from a stop. The Rimac<\/a> Concept One and the C_Two first proved that EV can more than keep up with supercars of the old ways. But, real petrolheads will always miss the howling of a proper high-performance engine.<\/p>\n Having said that, it\u2019s time to head on over to Youtube and if the V10 roar is something you could live without.<\/p>\n Jay Leno can’t.<\/p>\n
