The 1967 Toyota 2000 GT was sold for a staggering $912,500, exceeding its initial evaluation of $850,000.<\/p>\n

Explaining the high price paid by the anonymous buyer is the fact that the pristine vehicle is one of the only 62 left-handed models delivered in the States, with all the numbers matching. Another major price staking factor was that\u00a0 Otto Linton, an inductee of \u201cLegends of the Glen,\u201d an elite class of racing drivers, was the previous owner.<\/p>\n

Otto Linton was the last surviving racer from America\u2019s first post-WWII road races. Linton had a total of three 2000 GTs and owned a Toyota dealership in Pennsylvania. Otto passed away in 2018, and there’s no doubt that he cherished his 2000 GT since it remained by his side for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n

The Toyota<\/a> 2000 GT was then owned by Rich Jacobsen (in 1998) from Scranton. It was a part of his collection till 2006, after which he sold it to Maine Laine.<\/p>\n

Under the care of Maine Laine, the vehicle went through restoration for the first time and sat on the stage at Toyota\u2019s 50th Anniversary Display at the 2007 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.<\/p>\n

Brown McClatchy Maloney acquired it the same year, which he then drove in the 2010 Copperstate 1000 rally.<\/p>\n

The auctioned<\/a> model comes in its authentic Solar red and looks factory fresh, if not better. Sotheby\u2019s claims the vehicle to have \u201ca very authentic and proper look, with correct finishes to the engine bay and well-fitted bodywork.\u201d The interior is also intact, with negligible patina, wooden steering, and dashboard. The seats as well have the complete authentic and 60\u2019s comfy upholstery.<\/p>\n

Since the unveiling, the 2000 GT had become an exclusive limited car. Initially, a Yamaha project, it was sold to Nissan and then to Toyota.<\/p>\n

Toyota then installed a 2.0-liter inline six-cylinder DOHC engine from Toyota Crown.\u00a0The relatively small unit produced a healthy 150 hp for the time. Moreover, thanks to the five-speed manual gearbox and 2,400-pound weight, the sports car possessed excellent drivability.<\/p>\n

A 135-mph top speed and a higher price tag than its rivals did not falter its impact and incomparable engineering.<\/p>\n

All of these features make the 2000 GT an automotive legend.<\/p>\n

And its price tag only confirms that title.<\/p>\n
