Honda is a Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturing company. Honda began selling scooters and motorcycles in the United States in the early 1960’s. Honda earned a reputation for reliable and fuel-efficient designs that is carried on today. A Honda Spree service manual provides the needed specifications to repair and maintain these scooters easily.
The Honda Spree got it’s start in Japan as the Honda Eve in 1983. The Spree first came to the United States in 1984. The initial Spree design was essentially a stripped-down scooter made as small and simple as possible. The low cost, ease of service, and fuel efficiency made the Spree a popular scooter during the 1980’s.
The first Spree scooters lacked features many riders today find to be essential. The U.S.-version introduced in 1984 featured a battery and a starter. Earlier Eve scooters were push-start. The Spree was introduced with an adjustable carburetor, a feature Eve scooters lacked. The Spree never gained an engine stop switch, so riders had to shut off the ignition to stop the motor.
The Spree featured a 49cc motor capable of pushing the little scooter up to speeds exceeding 35 miles per hour, not too shabby for such a small bike. Honda added colors and features to the Spree before the final version was discontinued after the 1987 model year.
Several versions of the Spree have become quite valuable. In 1986, a special edition in white and green was introduced that rivals the earliest Spree scooters for rarity. Spree scooters from the first year are among the most desirable to collectors and are quite rare today. In 1987, Honda introduced the “Iowa Edition” designed to comply with that states restrictive laws on sub-50 cc scooters. The result was a significant decline in power due to the restrictive exhaust. Today, the Iowa Edition Spree scooters are highly desirable and extremely rare.
The classic good looks of the Spree are not lost on enthusiasts today. A Honda Spree repair manual helps owners identify problems easily. Using these high quality manuals, Spree owners can remove and replace worn and damaged components safely and correctly. These manuals are also ideal for helping owners customize their scooters with aftermarket parts.
