The Honda Gold Wing was a series of touring motorcycles produced by Honda. Gold Wings featured shaft drive and a flat engine. It was introduced at the 1974 Cologne Motorcycle Show, the Gold Wing went on to become a fairly popular model in North America, Australia, Japan, and Western Europe. But before you work on your Honda Gold Wing, double-check to see if you have a Honda Gold Wing service manual.

The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan included a Honda Gold Wing GL1000 produced in 1974 as one of their 240 Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology. The Honda GL models have appeared eighteen times in the Cycle World list of Ten Best bikes throughout 2012.

Over the course of its run, the Gold Wing experienced many design changes. From in 1975 with the 999cc  flat-four engine, by 2001 it had grown to a 1,832cc flat-six. The 2012 model was given cruise control, anti-lock braking, electrically-assisted reverse gear, a fairing with heating and an adjustable windscreen, satnav, panniers, and a trunk, an optional airbag, a pillion backrest, and a six-speaker audio system with MP3/iPod connectivity. However, if you ever find yourself showing your Honda Gold Wing some TLC, make sure you have a Honda Gold Wing owners manual to make sure the job gets done right.
