The Suzuki Aerio was debuted by the company in 2001.It was sold throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and a version was sold in the United States. Aerio owners should reference the Suzuki Aerio service manual for information on keeping their vehicle running.

The Aerio was also known as the “Liana” or “Life in A New Age” in certain parts of the world. It was offered as a 5 door hatchback and as a 4 door sedan.  These vehicles were built with a 16 valve straight 4 engine.

The models produced for the United States were given a slightly larger and more powerful engine. The cars came with 5 speed manual transmission as standard, with a 4 speed automatic as an option. The automatic option included 4 wheel drive with the package.   The cars produced for the United States market were offered in 2 different trim levels for each generation. In 2004 the engine was updated to a more powerful one. For the year 2005, the interior was redesigned and restyled. And Anti-Lock brakes became standard in 2006.

In the European markets, this vehicle was called the Liana. The main purpose of the car was to be an affordable small car for families. Suzuki added minor updates for the European models and also added a diesel engine option. Other than the engine updates, the European model received very little updates to its style.

The Suzuki Liana was used in the automotive segment of the show “Top Gear’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. Celebrity guests would take turns weekly driving the car around the track and trying to set a record. During the 3 years the Liana was used on the show, it held up extremely well. It drove 1600 laps, the tires and brakes had to be changed 100 times and had 6 new clutches.

In 2001, Suzuki designed a special edition Liana to be able to be used for hill climb races. The car was given a specially designed space frame. Sadly, the driver had to retire the car with 1 mile left until the finish line.

Clearly the Suzuki Aerio was a serious contender in the automotive market worldwide. It was intended to be an affordable, small, family car and the company reached this goal.

If you happen to own a Suzuki Aerio, it is worthwhile to have the Suzuki Aerio workshop manual in your garage to help you maintain yours.
