Ssangyong

Ssangyong

South Korea is well known in the automotive industry and rightly so. They are home to many different automobile manufacturers. Ssangyong happens to be the fourth largest one. They are also a subsidiary of the Indiana multinational automotive company called Mahindra and Mahindra Limited. Ssangyong produces vehicles right out of their headquarters in Pyeongtaek and Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Over the years, owners of Ssangyong vehicles and technicians that work on Ssangyong models can make use of a Ssangyong workshop manual for any necessary maintenance or repairs that arise.

Ssangyong has been around since 1986 producing vehicles that can be found all over the world, excluding North America. Originally, Ssangyong began business as two separate companies Ha Dong-hwan Motorworkshop and Dongbang Motor Company. Throughout the years, Ssangyong has undergone many partnerships and buyouts with companies such as GM Korea, Daewoo Motors, and even Mercedes Benz.

In 2015, Mahindra acquired the majority of Ssangyong and released the Tivoli which was the first car to be debuted since the acquisition. The launch of the Tivoli and the acquisition by Mahindra helped the company to regenerate the brand. Sales increased and marketing was booming.

The current line up for Ssangyong vehicles consists of a mostly SUVS. The Rexton is an SUV that has been in production since 2001 and is recognized in other markets too. The Rodius/Stavic is an oversized van that has been around since 2004. The Actyon was replaced by the Koranda in 2010 after being retired for 4 years. 2015 saw the Tivoli and 2016 brought the XLV which is an extended version of the Tivoli. Ssangyong does have one pickup truck in its line up currently which is called the Musso. It replaced the Actyon Sports back in 2018 and it is referred to as the Rexton Sports in South Korea.

Ssangyong has always been known for their oversized vehicles such as SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and even buses. Over the years, the South Korean brand has revamped their lineup to readily compete with the automotive industry, however, they have steared clear of sedans or compact cars. In prior years when Ssangyong partnered with Mercedes, there were more luxurious sedan models that were in production for a time period.

Today, Ssangyong vehicles can be found just about anywhere in the world, other than the United States. Technicians who work on Ssangyong models can refer to a Ssangyong service manual for routine maintenance or repairs that may be needed. Although South Korea is known for their reliability, service is still recommended and encouraged.
