PROTON Holdings Berhad is a Malaysian automotive corporation and company and automobile corporation involved in automobile design, manufacturing, distribution, and marketing. Proton was founded in 1983, as Malaysia's sole national auto company until the birth of Perodua in 1993. 'Proton' is a Bahasa Malaysia acronym for Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional (National Automobile Company). Perusahan Otomobil Nasional Berhad (PROTON) was incorporated in 1983. PROTON made Malaysia's first car, the Proton Saga, which launched commercially on July 9, 1985, by Malaysian Prime Minister at the time, Dato' Seri Mahathir Mohamed, who had initially conceived the idea of a Malaysian car. However, before you tinker with your PROTON, make sure you have a PROTON service manual to get the job done right.

PROTON'S model lineup is as follows: Satria GTi, the Waja, Wira, Iswara, Juara, and Perdana V6. The range of 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 L engines offers customers a broad spectrum of engine options to choose from both locally and abroad.

Mitsubishi Corporations and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation were shareholders, as well as being PROTON's technical assistance partner and component supplier.

December 30, 1996, marked the unveiling of the Proton Putra, a two-door coupe, to the public as well as the production of their millionth car from the Shah Alam plant. PROTON made a significant step in updating its engineering capabilities with the procurement of Lotus Group International Limited, a British automotive engineering company, and manufacturer of luxury sports cars. Together, PROTON and Lotus offered large scale manufacturing capabilities with world-class engineering expertise.

Today, PROTON vehicles are making their mark internationally as innovative and competitive vehicles. They export worldwide, including the highly competitive United Kingdom and continental European auto markets. The PROTON brand continues to be a staple of the Malaysia's economy and doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. Make sure you grab your PROTON repair manual today!
