Porsche is a German automobile manufacturing company that was formed in the 1930ís. Porsche makes sports cars, SUVs and sedans that are sold worldwide. The Porsche 964 made itís debut in 1989, and almost instantly became one of the most sought after cars of the early 1990ís. A Porsche 964 workshop manual pdf explains the seemingly complex sports car in easily understood terms, making the Porsche 964 an easy car to restore and maintain by the home mechanic.

The Porsche 911-style was well established as an automotive icon by the mid 1980ís, when development of the Porsche 964 began. Despite efforts to replace the air-cooled, rear engine car with more popular, contemporary front engine, rear drive platforms, buyers insisted that the 911 continue, and Porsche did not disappoint with the 964.

Power was provided by an air-cooled boxer-type six cylinder engine that was rear mounted. Substantial styling changes gave the new 964 a fully modern appearance, while retaining the classic lines that had made the 911, and Porsche, a world wide phenomenon. In the United States, the Porsche 964 was sold as the Carrera 2, turbo, RS America and the Carrera 4, while the 964 tag was used to differentiate the car from other 911-based models.

Porsche made several, rather significant changes to the 964 that set it apart from other 911-type cars. Notably, the suspension and braking systems were heavily modified, providing a much greater degree of cornering stability and controlled braking, two areas that had proven to be dangerous in the older 911s. The 964 was initially available only as an all-wheel drive car, and the all-wheel drive models continue to be the most sought after. Porsche introduced power, anti-lock four wheel disc brakes as standard for the 964, a first. Also a first, Porscheís own Tiptronic automatic transmission became available. The auto transmission featured the option of semi-manual shifting.

The Porsche 964 was an instant classic, and collectors have been buying clean, original examples for ever increasing sums. While fully modern and a serious sports car in itís own right, the 964 is also an easily serviced car that can be maintained by the casual home mechanic using a Porsche 964 service manual like those used by professional automotive restorers. The manual features tips and tricks for removing, inspecting and repairing the various components and gives detailed diagrams and specifications for each of the unique Porsche 964 models.
