Nissan is a Japanese automobile manufacturing company that sell cars worldwide. Nissan is known for reliable cars and trucks, and for producing some of the most exciting sports cars of all time. Nissan trucks are known worldwide for dependability and rugged construction. In 1980, Nissan/Datsun introduced the 720 model, which replaced the 620 that had made Datsun a household name in the US. A Nissan 720 repair manual shows owners the steps to keep these trucks running great.

The Nissan 720 picked up from the successes of the 620 trucks. Available in 2WD and 4WD, regular cab, King Cab and Crew Cab, the Nissan 720 was available in many trim levels from basic, stripped down versions intended to increase fuel mileage to dressed up models that met every comfort requirement. In the United States, the GL model was the most common. The GL was above the bottom of the line, but did not use unnecessary additional equipment, keeping the price down and the truck simple to maintain.

Nissan utilized variations of numerous inline four cylinder engines across the production life of the 720. Ranging from 1.5 liters up to 2.4 liters in gasoline powered versions and up to 2.5 liters powered by diesel, the 720 was not a power house. Instead, it was one of the most durable designs to be put on the road, and as such many are still around.

The Nissan 720 was particularly popular with Americans needing a light-duty work truck, and many thousands of them could be seen in the 1980s servicing pools, carting handyman tools, and hauling landscaping equipment. Many thousands more were put to work in the back country, where the reliable engines and transmissions and durable suspensions could get drivers far off the road and back again. An aftermarket conversion, called the Bushmaster, featured a welded bed-to-cab and a fully carpeted interior. Rare today, the Bushmaster is considered the predecessor to the Nissan Pathfinder, and was one of the first modern-style SUVs.

Nissan introduced a new model truck, called the Hardbody for the 1996 model year in the United States. Today, the Nissan 720 is a desirable truck and many are still seen offroad, where the small size, durable drivetrain and light weight make it an ideal adventure vehicle. The 720 is cheap and easy to maintain, and most parts are available worldwide. Owners today find that a Nissan 720 service manual provides all the information needed to restore and repair these great trucks.
