The Mitsubishi Triton is one of the trucks designed and produced by Mitsubishi. It has been in the Mitsubishi family lineup since 1978. Owners of this compact truck should consider adding the Mitsubishi Triton workshop manual to the glove compartment of their truck!

The very first generation of the Triton pickup truck was sold in Japan starting in 1978.  This original version was very utilitarian in design and appearance and offered a 2 wheel or 4-wheel version.

The second generation was debuted in 1986, and not surprisingly the Triton had undergone some updates. A new grille and plastic bumpers were the biggest design updated noted in this generation. The Mitsubishi Triton was not known as a fast truck or a fancy one. Its purpose was to be a basic workhorse.

By 1993, Mitsubishi gradually started adding updates to the Triton that would make them more comfortable and more manageable. Eventually, Mitsubishi would add 2 tone paint as an option, which helped give a more pleasant the truck.

Mitsubishi released the 3rd generation of the Triton in 1996. This time they added options to update the engine. Consumers had a choice of a 2.5 turbodiesel engine, a 16-valve fuel injected engine or a naturally aspirated diesel engine.

The fourth generation of the Triton was released by Mitsubishi in 2005. This time the truck was designed by Akinori Nakanishi and exported to 140 global markets What was interesting is that the Triton was selling well in every market but the Japanese market. Eventually, the Triton would be pulled from the Japanese lineup.

The model year 2015 would be the 5th generation of the Mitsubishi Triton. This time the truck would come equipped with a 2.4-liter diesel engine. This generation was available in 5 different trim levels. It was available as the Triton Quest, Triton MT, Triton VGT MT, Triton VGT AT and the Triton VGT Adventure. Most of the differences between the models had to do with the size of the engine and the capabilities of the truck.

In April of 2017, the Triton was updated to include more safety features.

In 2019 the Triton was updated and showcased at the Thailand International Motor Expo.

Even though there are not a lot of the Triton trucks on the road today, they are still used in many places. If you have one and want to ensure it runs for many more years, then the Mitsubishi Triton service manual is a necessary part of your toolbox.
