The Lotus Elise is a two-door roadster that has been around since 1994. It has been an icon since its first debut. The series 1 Elise was weighed only 1,598 pounds. Due to its lightweight design it was able to go from zero to sixty in not 5.8 seconds. It was designed Julian Thomson who was the head of design at Lotus during this time. Richard Rackham also took part in the design, he was the Lotus chief engineer. The series 1 Lotus Elise 80 was assembly shortly between 1997 and 2000 during this time 150 cars were sold. In 1999 a faster edition, the Elise 111S was introduced. The series 2 Lotus Elise was in production from 2001-2011. It was funded by General Motors and completely redesigned. New crash sustainability regulations were put into place. The series 2 was available as an 111S model with a VVC engine Rover technology put into place. It offered 160 horsepower. The 111S was discontinued in 2005 when the Federal Elise model came to play. It had a 1.8L engine with a twin-cam. It offered 189 horsepower. Many more editions were produced during the series 2 run.

The series 3 Lotus Elise started in 2011 and is the current model on the market. The headlights are larger, triangular single units. The new engine comes with a Magnuson supercharger increasing the power. The 2011 model was the last model offered for street legal sale in the United States. Since then it has only been sold for racing. The Cup 220 is a high performance version. It is a hardcore track focused Elise. In 2016 the Cup 250 was revealed. It has a top speed of 154 mph. The Cup 260 which features a double tail light design and a rear wing. It can go from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
