The first Willys Jeep was manufactured in 1940 as a military vehicle. It had 60 horsepower. From 1941 to 1945 the Willys MB was produced and made the name, Jeep, famous. The M-38 was later produced and featured a waterproof ignition system. The M-38 was produced only from 1950-1951. The M38A1 was produced from 1951 to 1962 along with the M-170.

After the end of World War II, Willys started production of a consumer vehicle was started. It kept the iconic wartime frame but added more street ready features. The first civilian edition offered was the CJ-2A with the nickname Universal. Starting at only $1,090, the CJ-2A was in production from 1945 to 1949. It offered a tailgate, large headlights, and a higher windshield.

The CJ-3A was produced from 1948 to 1953. It offered an improved ventilation system and a higher hood. It also had an overhead-valve 4-cylinder engine. This model was also called the Hurricane. During this time, Willys also produced the Dispatcher, or the DJ-3A. It was a two-wheel drive version of the CJ-3A. It was available in hardtop or convertible as well as a full-top or half-top model.

Many other Willys Jeep models were produced throughout the years with production ending many years ago. The CJ-8 was the last model produced but the CJ-7 was quite possibly the most popular version. It had the best handling, smoothest riding, and is still very popular today. The Willys is still sold today at dealers across the country.
