The first generation of the Monte Carlo featured a distinguished chrome, rectangular grille with a fine grid and a crest emblem centered on it. This red and chrome crest emblem came to be known as the knight’s crest and was a defining symbol of the Monte Carlo.

The Monte Carlo continued to see minor modifications and improvements until 1978 when the third generation was released. This model was significantly lighter and shorter than the previous model but also featured more interior room and trunk space.

In 1981 the fourth generation was restyled to have a smoother profile. The Monte Carlo was discontinued in 1988 until 1995, when the fifth generation was introduced. This newer version of the Monte Carlo had more rounded features and was much less boxy than previous versions.

The sixth and final generation came out in 2000 and ran until its final year in 2007. This model had stylized wheel flares, reshaped headlights and a rear deck section that resembled the 1970 model. A supercharged SS version was released in 2004 that had 240 horsepower. But as large, two-door coupes became less popular the Monte Carlo was retired after 2007.
